A Proving Ground
for Speculative Winter Facades
Year 3 Investigative Project
The project investigates the possibility of using the formal and lumetric beauty of ice to augment existing, banal urban landscapes.
Based on the remote island of Lågskär, a small island on the Åland Islands archipelago midway between Sweden and Finland, the proving ground consists of formwork, infrastructure and strategies to test stacked ice bricks, drip ice facades, carved ice sculptures and sheet ice windows, proposing ice and snow as a serious building material for the Anthropogenic future.
